Hey beauty pros! Summer is upon us and I am so excited for the coming months. Seeing seasonal nail designs puts me in the best mood and makes me want to have fun in the sun. I used to feel like I missed out on this when I was running my beauty business, so I am here to help you balance your business and personal lives this season.
Your business should be busy in summer, as it’s a time when people who don’t always get their nails done want them to look good. Why? Because people venture outside more, the sun highlights details and open toe shoes are worn, so pedicures are more popular.
If you are not yet busy for this month, it’s likely your marketing approach isn’t quite right, because success comes on the back of the work done in the months prior. However, there’s still time for you to come, meaning there’s time for you to get prepared and fill empty slots.
You might be thinking of launching a couple of summer promotions, which is a great start – but it’s not as easy as just adding these to your booking system or promoting them once on social media. You should be prepared for each quarter, so bear that in mind for Q3 of the year, which starts in July.
Here are my top tips for achieving a work-life balance this summer:
1. Invest time into promotions.
I encourage pros to offer summer packages, but these require urgency and effort if you want clients to book them. I recommend launching promotions over a four-week period.
2. Be prepared for appointment changes.
Summer, like Christmas, can get super busy, so have your policies perfected and agreed to prior to booking. This saves you time, money and sleepless nights!

3. Fill your diary in advance.
Advertise August appointments now. Ensure your offerings appear exclusive by expressing how quickly appointments get booked up and releasing a few slots at a time.
4. Modify your marketing.
If your diary is quiet, adapt your attraction marketing for your seasonal packages. Talk only to your ideal clients in your marketing, for example by sharing about the results they’ll receive.
5. Make the most of one-off appointments.
You will likely have some one-off appointments during summer, so use these to your advantage. Build relationships, make a great impression and nurture clients so that they stick around and recommend you to friends and family.
6. Prepare for time off.
If you are going away, it is important to be prepared. If you can’t hand responsibilities to staff, still show up online. Schedule content before you go and let clients know when you’ll be returning to work and social media.
7. Prioritise self-care.
Summer should be fun, so don’t overwork yourself, stick to your hours (or charge more for working outside of them), and keep on top of your self-care.
Don’t forget to track what goes well in Q3 so you can prepare for a great Q4, then tweak and repeat for an amazing summer next year!
