EDITOR'S LETTER

Iwrite this month’s Ed’s Letter on my return from the first NailympiaChina in Shanghai, while gearing up for the Scratch Stars Awards practical judging day and announcement of the North America’s Star Nail Artist – Season 1 champion. It’s a hectic time, but one I am treasuring, as I’m reminded how fortunate I am to connect with talented nail professionals worldwide and celebrate their creativity and achievements.

Nailympia China was a truly phenomenal spectacle, courtesy of host & CEO of Shanghai Chiyan Abrasives Co & Muzer, Kimi Chang, and her team. It highlighted nail professionals’ desire, particularly in Asia, to be profiled and rewarded for their skills, and sparked immense joy amongst judges, competitors and sponsors. The event culminated in China’s first Avant-Garde Nail Art Show, featuring the intricate and detailed works of global nail stylists on over 20 catwalk models, with 150 guests in attendance. Nails were admired by influencers, members of the press and business owners new to the industry, and it was a delight to see the craft recognised in such a beautiful way. More on this in next month’s issue – which will showcase the event’s stunning handiwork, so make sure you receive the July issue of Scratch to admire it.

While we continue to celebrate the achievements of nail technicians, I want to thank the judges and administrative personnel who dedicate their time – often for free – to support industry competitions and events. Without them, standards in our sector would stagnate, the nail realm wouldn’t be so appreciated, and competitors would not receive feedback that helps them to grow and improve.
