A CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE

Relive the magic of The Scratch Stars Party 2025, at which talent was recognised & the UK&I nail community was celebrated

Under the twinkling lights of The Underglobe, London, amidst gold confetti, pretty pink balloons and plenty of pick ‘n’ mix, 18 Scratch Stars were given a spotlight. It was Sunday 6 July, and over 300 nail pros, sponsors, judges and peers had made glamorous entrances into the venue for the biggest night in the 2025 UK and Ireland nail industry calendar. It was an occasion where the artistry, resilience and innovation at the heart of its nail sector was celebrated, and this year’s Scratch Stars Awards winners were crowned.

Guests excitedly entered the space to be greeted with a glass of candy floss-topped prosecco, and to view photos from the awards process on a loop across the walls. Music played and chatter ensued as techs reunited with friends and colleagues. The sense of community was palpable, and spirits were high as attendees gradually made their way to their seats, to find generous goody bags waiting. An hour passed – but it felt like minutes, and the first nine Scratch Stars Awards winners were ready to be revealed.

The 13th annual Scratch Stars Awards opened for online entry in February, and presented a wide spectrum of categories, reflecting the diversity and dynamism of the burgeoning UK&I nail sector. From L&P Tech of the Year and Social Media Star of the Year to Nail Salon of the Year and the Shooting Star Award, the categories celebrated individuals, businesses and teams setting industry standards and pushing creative boundaries over 12 months.

The judging panel, comprising respected educators, past winners and industry experts, had lent their time to take part in the scoring process, assessing 90 finalists overall on various criteria. Judging took place either remotely or at a practical competition day, depending on the category, and regarded not only technical brilliance, but professional growth, community impact and customer care.

The music stopped and the room fell silent as finalists awaited their fate, and it was the task of TV’s Jeff Brazier and I to cue up the results. The nail industry’s growth and ever-increasing profile were acknowledged, before sponsors and judges were thanked for their support. Three esteemed nail stylists were honoured first, with an official induction into the Hall Of Fame after winning a category for a third time in 2024. This rendered them ineligible to enter it again, but secured them a space on the judging panel.

Catriona Leith, three-time Scratch Stars One Stroke Artist of the Year and Gel Tech of the Year, came on stage to receive trophies featuring the titles of Ultimate One Stroke Artist and Ultimate Gel Tech. Next up was Jiak Hing, who was thrilled to take her seat on the judges’ side of the nail table in 2025 after scooping the Ultimate Gel Polish Stylist award. The talented Kayley Cairns followed, with a glass trophy detailing her Ultimate Nail Stylist accolade. But were there to be more entrants into the Hall Of Fame following the 2025 results? Attendees were keen to find out, and didn’t have to wait too long, as the first Scratch Star for 2025 went to Lucy Price-Marshall. Her third consecutive Natural Nail Specialist of the Year win meant a move into the prestigious Hall Of Fame.

Seven technical and artistic Scratch Stars Awards winner announcements followed, with finalists congratulating fellow competitors on their successes as they collected their gold star trophies. This first half of the awards saw another entrant into the Hall Of Fame: Danielle Brindley, who will be presented with the Ultimate Polish & Paint Artist trophy at next year’s event.

The final award before the interval went to Jessica White for Social Media Star of the Year. Inspired by her commitment to engaging content, I papped a selfie with Jeff on stage featuring the rapturous audience in the background, before they enjoyed 30 minutes of dancing, chatting and house drinks, and some posed for their silhouettes to be cleverly cut out of paper, courtesy of event artist, Alison Russell.

With a joyous atmosphere inside the glittering event space, it was time for the second half of the awards. Nail businesses, teams and educators were honoured, and there were two more admissions into the Hall Of Fame: Clare Woodcock for her prowess as a mobile nailist, and the Glitterbels Education Team: now a Scratch Stars Ultimate Nail Team.

Before the final two award-winners were revealed, Sam Grocutt, Hair & Beauty Charity trustee, came on stage to present a raffle winner with a prize of Diva Radiant Shine Straighteners and a Prima 300 Pro Hairdryer. Tickets had been sold throughout the evening and over £900 was raised for the charity, which supports hair and beauty professionals who have fallen on hard times, and for which Scratch is a media partner. Ashton Cole scooped the prize, and posed for a photo with her goodies.

Tension and excitement mounted as five finalists were named in the Shooting Star Award category – and while all deserving winners, it was Theresa Foddering who shone, owing to her advocation for better industry practices, health awareness and professionalism.

Closing the awards segment was the Services to the Nail Industry presentation. Open to both nomination and entry, the award recognises an individual or business that has offered expertise, skills and initiative to the nail world. They have been aiding its professional growth, direction, development and journey for at least five years – and are committed to raising the profile of the sector positively. Samuel Sweet, co-founder of Sweet Squared: sponsor of the category, held the room’s attention as he announced Belinda Price as champion. The passionate pro, who is experienced in all facets of the nail realm and ever-supportive of those within it, gave a heartwarming speech and the room filled with applause for the deserving pro. She was joined on stage by all of the evening’s category champions, who held their golden trophies high as confetti burst above them and the iconic winner’s photo was snapped.

Behind them, UK garage duo, Artful Dodger, set up their tech at the DJ deck, ready for what can only be described as a momentous performance. For over an hour, hits including Movin’ Too Fast and Re-Rewind (When The Crowd Say Bo Selecta) attracted partygoers to the dancefloor until the early hours.

Beyond the individual wins, this year’s event reaffirmed that the UK and Ireland nail community is thriving, and it was encouraging to see finalists championing one another, while making friends and memories. The industry came together not just to reward excellence, but honour the unwavering dedication that makes it so vibrant. For many, the night offered the spark needed to enter next year’s awards – or to simply continue their craft with renewed energy.

To all who participated in this year’s Scratch Stars Awards: from the finalists and winners to sponsors and judges, thank you for ensuring standards are elevated in this industry, and reminding the wider sphere of what’s possible when passion meets purpose.

“I loved my Scratch Stars Awards experience and have made so many friends in my fellow finalists. The practical judging day was great fun, and my nerves dissipated as soon as I entered the room of amazing nail technicians, who were all keen to develop their skills. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the wonderful atmosphere that had been created by the Scratch team and the judges were very kind, which helped finalists to stay calm.

“I didn’t enter the awards expecting to win: I did so to gain experience from every part of the journey. Being part of the process has helped me to become a better nail technician, as I am more aware of all aspects of my services – particularly the client journey.

“I highly recommend entering the Scratch Stars Awards, as it has increased my support network in the industry. I have loved getting to know the other finalists in the Gel Polish Stylist of the Year category, and we have supported each other throughout the experience. The journey has made me even more proud to work in this industry. I treasure my award and the experience, and am truly grateful to receive such a wonderful honour.

“As for The Scratch Stars Party, it’s for anybody who is passionate about nails and wants to dance their socks off. It presents a united vibe, where everyone you meet is an industry friend.”

Sophie Donaldson, Scratch Stars Gel Polish Stylist of the Year 2025

“Being announced as Scratch Stars Educator of the Year for a second time was one of the most emotional and uplifting moments of my career. The atmosphere at The Scratch Stars Party was amazing, and from the moment I walked into the venue, there was a buzz of excitement and pride. Every detail, from the sparkle and music to the amazing, talented people in attendance, created such a special night. To be surrounded by exceptional nail professionals, who all came together to celebrate the nail sector, was so inspiring. “Knowing that my students nominated me for this award means more than I can put into words. I’ve always believed that education is about more than passing on knowledge: it’s about connecting and building a rapport with learners, encouraging their development and supporting their confidence. “The Scratch Stars Awards reminds us how important our industry is, how much it has grown, and that there are many incredible professionals pushing it forward. I left the event feeling empowered, inspired and incredibly proud to be a part of the nail community.”

Michelle Brookes, Scratch Stars Educator of the Year 2025

“After winning the Natural Nail Specialist of the Year title in 2023 and 2024, the pressure was on this year, as I hoped to do enough to enter the Hall Of Fame.

I was delighted when I was announced as the category winner, and becoming the Scratch Stars Ultimate Natural Nail Specialist is one of my greatest achievements.

“It is so important to push yourself out of your comfort zone and enter competitions. The Scratch Stars Awards process has helped me gain so much confidence and experience, and opened up networking opportunities with incredibly talented nail stylists. I am immensely grateful.”

Lucy Price-Marshall, Scratch Stars Natural Nail Specialist of the Year 2025

“To be recognised as Mobile Nailist of the Year for a third time and enter the Hall Of Fame means everything to me. This year has not been without its challenges, but I have tackled each with confidence and am delighted to achieve the title of Scratch Stars Ultimate Mobile Nailist. To get the seal of approval from esteemed judges who have dissected my work, business, entry and mystery shop report reassures me that I’m doing right by my clients. I can’t wait to be a judge next year. Thank you, Scratch, for this opportunity to shine!”

Clare Woodcock, Scratch Stars Mobile Nailist of the Year 2025

“It is an honour and privilege to be awarded the Scratch Stars Home Nail Salon of the Year title. I am so grateful to my friends, family and clients for their support and for believing in me, and I am delighted to have received 100% in my mystery shopping report!”

Michelle Brown, owner of Chell’s Beauty By The Sea, Scratch Stars Home Nail Salon of the Year 2025

“What an incredible night! To be named Nail Team of the Year for the third time and enter the Scratch Stars Hall Of Fame is an honour. The missions of the Glitterbels Education Team are to raise standards, inspire the next generation of nail professionals and share our passions with the industry we love. This recognition celebrates not just our work, but the impact that education can have. Thank you, Scratch, for a night we’ll never forget!”

Charli Jepson, head of education at Glitterbels, on behalf of the Glitterbels Education Team, Scratch Stars Nail Team of the Year 2025

“Winning the Nail Salon of the Year award has filled us with so much pride and emotion. To bring the trophy home to Tottenham and celebrate our achievement with our amazing community: the people who shape and support us, means so much. “The Scratch Stars Awards journey has reminded us how powerful it is to be seen and celebrated for the work we pour our hearts into. We’ve learned that staying true to our values: confidence, creativity and community, is what sets us apart. We’re honoured, we’re grateful and we’re so excited for what’s next!”

Susan Nguyen, on behalf of The Nail Group, London, Scratch Stars Nail Salon of the Year 2025

The Scratch Stars Party is an unforgettable event that brings the nail community together in an amazing venue. It’s incredible to see fellow nail enthusiasts and industry icons, and to connect with like-minded individuals who share my love for the industry. But winning a prestigious gold Scratch Stars Awards trophy is the ultimate validation of my hard work and dedication, making every challenge worth it. “I loved the atmosphere at the party, with fantastic entertainment courtesy of Artful Dodger. Dancing with everyone created an infectious vibe of fun and celebration. I can’t wait to do it all over again!”

Kirsty Mcdonough, Scratch Stars Nail Stylist of the Year 2025

“My Scratch Stars Awards journey has been incredible. From submitting an entry to standing alongside amazing finalists, it’s been an experience I’ll never forget. This was my fourth time as a finalist, and without a doubt, the hardest time. The competition pushes me to adapt, stay calm under pressure and improvise when needed. My model for this year’s judging day was exceptional, and the day was full of deep breaths and quiet self check-ins to keep going.

“Walking into The Scratch Stars Party, my heart was already full, as being a finalist felt like a win. When my name was called as the winner, it felt surreal. I had rehearsed a speech for years, but in the moment there were tears, smudged mascara, and no words. A total (joyful) trainwreck!

“Will I enter again? Absolutely. As many times as my heart tells me to. And to anyone thinking about it – just entering is a huge accomplishment. Do it.”

Leila Monroy, Scratch Stars Pedicurist of the Year 2025

“After winning the Scratch Stars Educator of the Year award in 2024, I was keen to enter this year’s new category: Online Educator of the Year, as I’m so proud of my online course platform. The awards process encouraged me to reflect on the kind of educator I am, what I stand for, and what I can do to further improve my education offerings. The Scratch Stars Awards is such a valuable self-evaluation tool. To win feels incredible, and I know it will give my students even more confidence in my training. Thank you to Scratch for always encouraging nail professionals to be the best they can be.”

Melanie Lewendon, Scratch Stars Online Educator of the Year 2025

“Attending The Scratch Stars Party was an unforgettable experience. Being surrounded by so many talented and passionate artists reminded me why I fell in love with this industry, and I learned so much by immersing in the creativity of others and hearing their stories. The Scratch Stars Awards experience is inspiring, humbling and energising – and to win is exhilarating! Holding the trophy in my hands felt like years of hard work, dedication and my love for nails coming full circle. It’s a feeling I’ll never forget and I am more motivated than ever to continue growing and creating.”

Justyna Pryke, Scratch Stars Gel Tech of the Year 2025

“Winning the Shooting Star Award feels surreal and incredibly special. Just being named alongside such inspiring individuals was an honour, but to be chosen as the winner is overwhelming. It’s a powerful reminder that the work we do behind the scenes, the passion we pour into our projects, and the purpose we pride ourselves on really does make a difference.

“This past year has been the most transformative of my career, not least because of the launch of Saviour™, a brand built from years of experience, tests, education, and a desire to change the way we approach nail and skin repair. To have my work recognised by the industry I care so deeply about is incredibly emotional. “The entire awards experience has reminded me how vibrant, passionate and determined our world is. I’ve come away feeling even more inspired to keep pushing forward, not just with products, but with education, kindness and honest conversations that help raise the bar for all of us.

“To everyone who has supported me on this journey – thank you. This win isn’t just for me; it’s for every professional who has chosen to do things with care, courage and integrity. I’m so proud to stand alongside you all.”

Theresa Foddering, Scratch Stars Shooting Star Award winner 2025

“I have been involved with the Scratch Stars Awards from its infancy, as both an entrant and judge, so this award is particularly special to me. I have been inundated with messages and kind words since receiving the Services to the Nail Industry title, and was unaware of how many careers have been positively impacted by my teaching and support until I collected my trophy. I have been so touched by the comments. “I would encourage all nail professionals and businesses to enter the Scratch Stars Awards. Don’t wait until you think you are ‘good enough’, as the entry process encourages you to audit your skills, goals and achievements, and the judging process and clear feedback and scoresheets support your development. It’s a great learning process.”

Belinda Price, Scratch Stars Services to the Nail Industry winner 2025

“I met so many amazing people and professionals on my Scratch Stars Awards journey and am honoured to receive the title of Mixed Media Artist of the Year. All finalists showcased incredible work, and the party was so much fun: a night I’ll always remember!”

Alice Nali, Scratch Stars Mixed Media Artist of the Year 2025

“After a two-year break from the Scratch Stars Awards competition, I felt ready to enter again. My winner’s trophy sits proudly on my desk – and I’m so happy!

“This is my second win in the L&P Tech of the Year category, and it means so much to me. My awards experiences have given me the knowledge to perfect weaker areas of my craft and increased my confidence. As the L&P Tech of the Year, I now have the belief and desire to enter more competitions.”

Kylea Wherry, Scratch Stars L&P Tech of the Year 2025

“Winning the Social Media Star of the Year title means so much to me. Social media can sometimes feel like a quiet hustle, owing to many late nights spent filming, editing, writing captions and planning launches. To have my efforts recognised with a Scratch Stars Award feels incredibly special. “Over the past year, I been creating content while writing my first online course: the Instagram Growth Accelerator, to help others grow their platforms with purpose. I created it to give back to the nail sector and share what I’ve learned, so to receive this award feels like a full circle moment. “I’m beyond grateful to the

Scratch team, judges and the incredible nail community. There are so many opportunities in our industry, so my advice to others is: keep showing up and learning, and don’t underestimate where your content can take you.”

Jessica White, Scratch Stars Social Media Star of the Year 2025

“The entire Scratch Stars Awards experience has been amazing – and so rewarding: from the entry process to the spectacular and very glamorous party. It was an honour to be in a category with four fantastic salons, and winning is the highlight of my career. The Kate Lifestyle team couldn’t be happier. To receive the title of Scratch Stars Nail & Beauty Salon of the Year is a huge achievement for us all, and testament to our hard work. Thank you Scratch!”

Kate Driscoll, owner of Kate Lifestyle, Scratch Stars Nail & Beauty Salon of the Year 2025

“My dream to take part in the Scratch Stars Awards and be surrounded by inspirational and creative people, who are as passionate about nails as I am, became a reality four years ago. That first entry pushed me out of my comfort zone, and the journey since has changed me immeasurably. I am still my own worst critic, but I feel comfortable to be me and to be celebrated for my creativity, which is all I ever wanted. Scratch and its team are consistent, positive beacons in this industry, bringing us together and making us stronger. Thank you Scratch for recognising and celebrating so many aspects of the nail world.”
