As’ka Baran’s log cabin, hidden away in the peaceful setting of her garden, serves to connect her clients with nature. Its location and carefully considered treatment menu create an ambiance of relaxation, tranquility and safety. “Clients often comment that once they step inside, they feel as if they are a million miles from anywhere,” As’ka shares.

The pro, renowned locally for her nail artistry, began her education in 2002, training in Holistic and Beauty Therapies, then Nail Technology. With a desire to run her own salon, As’ka’s large garden presented itself as an ideal space. “This was in 2006, when not many beauty pros had log cabin salons,” she reveals. “A lot of work went into constructing the cabin, and my family stepped in to help. I love being based in my garden and surrounded by nature.”

As’ka enjoys changing the salon’s décor every season, from its soft furnishings to mugs she serves her ‘famous frothy coffees’ in. “I love green, as the colour is luxurious and complements the garden environment,” she reveals. “I want everyone that steps into the cabin to feel a sense of calm. In summer, I leave the door open to hear the birdsong and in winter, I light candles and incorporate fluffy cushions and blankets.”

The Painted Nail

Location: Beaminster, Dorset

Relocating to the town of Beaminster, in the beautiful Dorset countryside, has proved to be a fruitful move for award-winning salon, The Painted Nail. After months of searching for a larger property, owner & Glitterbels educator, Toni Rodway, fell in love with a Grade II listed building. “I acquired two period properties: a former skittle alley and stables,” she explains. “The Painted Nail has been trading and growing for six years, thanks to its loyal clients, and the brand’s unique experiences can now be offered to more people.”

The renovated space includes luxury manicure and pedicure spaces, a tanning area, four beauty rooms and a hairdressing space, where the team of nine offers treatments: from Glitterbels nail services and Dermalogica facials, to massages and aesthetics. On why she loves Glitterbels, Toni comments: “The brand offers high-quality education and provides a fantastic range of products to accommodate all clients and trends. The results ensure we always have very happy customers!”

A standout feature in The Painted Nail’s new premises is a wall of Scratch magazine covers. “The space has vaulted period ceilings and I thought ‘what better way to showcase the magazine that I have read for over 20 years?’,” Toni smiles. “We’ve collated many great Scratch covers to create a talking point in the salon.”
