Icey’s Beauty Lounge

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands

Icey’s Beauty Lounge opened its doors in 2016: a ‘dream come true’ for owner, Aysana Druga. “The space used to be a convenience store, but as soon as I saw it, I could visualise all the beautiful things it could house,” she shares.

The salon was refurbished in 2020, incorporating green, white and gold accents. The iconic piano reception desk was bought by Aysana and her husband in 2015. “We didn’t know where it was going to go at the time, so we stored it in the garage of our rented flat,” she reveals. “When we walked through the salon space, we joked about bringing it in – then we actually did!”

Icey’s Beauty Lounge prides itself on its cosy vibe. “I believe that a workplace should feel like home, where you can catch up with your guests at each appointment and make them feel relaxed and happy,” Aysana continues.

The salon owner is joined in the beauty space by fellow nail pro, Angela, who she says she would ‘be lost without’. Both techs offer a variety of treatments, including pedicures and builder gel and L&P acrylic enhancements. They work with brands including OPI, Navy Professional, VINA, Kinetics, The GelBottle Inc, NSI and Swarovski. “We believe it’s important to use high-quality products,” Aysana says. “We also have a Vodex SalonAir dust collector to support the health of our team and clients.”

So what is Aysana’s dream for the future of Icey’s Beauty Lounge? It’s simple: to maintain ‘a beautiful and positive place where clients can feel safe’.

BFLY

Location: Alvaston, Derby

Holly Asamoah used to pass by a tattoo parlour every day on her way to work at a nail and beauty studio in Derby city centre. Her lease ended around the same time she noticed that the tattoo premises was available to rent, so she contacted the landlord and paid a deposit. “The interior was dark and depressing,” Holly shares. “I spent six weeks redecorating: choosing neutral tones and gold for a luxurious, calming feel. I then searched for my dream team and now, eight of us offer nail and beauty training courses alongside nail, lash, brow and waxing services. We also have hair, aesthetics, massage, teeth whitening, permanent jewellery and fine line tattoos on the menu: a nod to the former premises.”

The BFLY team offers gel polish, L&P acrylic and builder gel enhancements using the Glossify, Glitterbels and The GelBottle Inc brands, with Brillbird products for nail art. “BFLY is a salon where clients can relax and enjoy their appointments, as well as share deep conversations,” Holly continues. “The aim is for them to feel like they are a part of something special: in a place of quality and luxury, fuelled by a friendly and passionate team. We laugh, cry and enjoy prosecco. We are all a big family – clients and staff included!”

Holly is thankful for ‘amazing team members’ whom she can rely on, and that people choose and trust their work. She shares: “The success of the salon has shown me that with hard work and determination, great things can be achieved. My next goal is to develop BFLY in other areas of the Midlands.”
