My nail journey
I get as excited about creating nail designs as I did when I first picked up a nail brush over 25 years ago. I’ve been incredibly lucky to collaborate with brands, educate, work at events like London Fashion Week and continuously invest in further education. Opening Gemmy Jay Nail Artist & Training Academy is one of my proudest achievements, and watching it become a creative space where clients and students feel inspired has made every challenge worthwhile.
My salon is bright, welcoming and filled with flowers, greenery and personal touches. My colleagues, Hannah and Becca, run their own businesses within the space, so there’s a supportive atmosphere. Education has become one of my biggest passions, and I teach small classes for Hazel Dixon Nail Artist Academy. For me, educating is about building confidence, understanding the science behind products and helping create successful careers.
What makes me happy
Spending time with my fiancé, Ben, our Chihuahuas: Loki, Lola and Della, and making memories with family and friends. Ben and I are in the midst of renovating our first home, which has become a passion project.
A day in my life
Most mornings start with coffee and cuddles with my three dogs, before I head to the salon. My days are split between seeing clients, filming content, planning courses and mentoring students. In the evenings, I’ll often edit videos, plan designs or think about my next project. I love that no two days are the same.
Social media tips
My profile started growing when I stopped trying to create content that looked like everyone else’s. Now, I’d describe my style as authentic, colourful and creative.
MY TOP TIPS ARE:
1. Be yourself. Authenticity will always outperform copying someone else.
2. Consistency beats perfection. It’s better to post regularly than spend ages making content ‘perfect’.
3. Tell a story. People connect with people.
Career highlights
Becoming an educator is my biggest achievement, as helping shape the next generation of nail professionals makes me so proud. Winning South England Prestige Awards’ Nail Artist of the Year 2025/26 title was another milestone, as was seeing my work featured in Scratch.
Being a Scratch Stars Social Media Star of the Year finalist for 2026 was also surreal – especially as it was my first year entering the category. Social media is such a big part of my business, so having that recognised is a huge achievement.
My inspirations
Anything can spark an idea – from nature, architecture and interiors, to fashion, artwork and even wrapping paper! I love creating intricate nail art and challenging myself to try new techniques.
