As Glitterbels celebrates a product launch & exciting event for pros, Scratch gathers key details & shares notes from this month’s cover shoot, featuring brand co-founder, Annabel Maginnis

Seven years ago, Annabel Maginnis had a dream: to fashion a stylish-looking nail brand that allowed professionals to work creatively, safely and efficiently. Alongside her husband, Elliott, she launched Glitterbels, and developed an acrylic powder range that captured attention, owing to its vast selection of shades and finishes, packaged in pretty gold and clear pots.

The company has become renowned for its dedication to product development, and its products and presence in the industry is instantly recognisable, owing to signature baby pink branding and a penchant for unicorns, flowers and golden finishes. With two Scratch Stars Awards under its belt, Glitterbels is a reactive company that’s made a huge impact on the UK market, and is now spreading its wings in the USA.

Lighting up the nail sector

“We love creating products that are fun and bring out a nail tech’s creative side,” shares company co-founder, Annabel Maginnis. Glitterbels has recently launched four golden nail and cuticle tools, and dropped 60 Hema Free Builder-bel shades into the market in July last year: the biggest range of builder gels seen to date from a nail brand. The latest innovation is the DreamCure Lamp, which inspired this month’s cover shoot.

“We sought to create a lamp that combines quality and innovation with beauty,” Annabel continues. “The DreamCure Lamp features light-reflecting technology to ensure that Glitterbels nail products cure efficiently. It has been created with a raised opening and built-in sensor, so clients have more room for comfort and techs can concentrate on their artistry.”

The DreamCure Lamp has been over a year and a half in development, with the team designing and rigorously testing prototypes. “The lamp is created in our signature pink shade and during the design process, we added cute details, such as heart-shaped buttons,” Annabel notes.

Cover calling

A dreamy vibe was the focus for Scratch’s June front cover photo shoot: one filled with clouds, stars and shades of pink and white. “The creative team and I wanted the look of the DreamCure Lamp to transfer to the cover shoot, and photographer, Mihaela Samsodan, created the huge clouds we used for the backdrop and props,” Annabel reveals.

Taking place at Glitterbels HQ in Newcastle Under Lyme, the photo shoot saw hair and make-up begin at 9am, where make-up artist, Kate Gately, created a soft, pink glowy look for Annabel, who was both the model and nail artist. She added a sprinkle of glitter to her eyelids. Social media & content manager, Ebony Shepherd, assisted with wardrobe and accessories, and the shoot ran smoothly, with a brief pause for a wardrobe change.

“The highlight of the shoot was walking into the studio after members of the team had worked their magic,” smiles Annabel. “They had transformed the space into something from a fairytale. Huge clouds hanging from the ceiling isn’t something you see every day!”

Nail notes

Annabel worked on her own nails for the shoot, using Glitterbels Hema Free Builder-bel Gel in My Pearl as a base shade, before adding stars and clouds using Glitterbels Unbelievabel Gel in White. “The clouds matched the DreamCure Lamp packaging, and I added a touch of Gold Chrome: a product that will be available via Glitterbels soon,” Annabel reveals. “It took around two hours to create the nail look, and I think that the finished shots perfectly capture the playful and pink styles of the brand.

“I want any pro who sees the cover to think it looks dreamy and pretty, as if they are entering into the world of Glitterbels. It’s a place where creativity has no limits – and it’s pink!”
