EDITOR'S LETTER

I write this month’s Ed’s Letter on my return from an incredible day in London: the Scratch Stars Awards judging day for eight of the 18 categories for 2024. The London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) hosted team Scratch alongside 20 judges, hand models and 40 finalists, who showcased their nail skills and knowledge across technical and artistic areas of nails in a bid to win a Scratch Star Award.

While the day was fast-paced and demanding for finalists and nerves were prevalent, what struck me most was the camaraderie and kindness amongst these competing UK&I nail pros. They wished each other good luck, lent tools or products if they’d been misplaced or forgotten, and many enjoyed a drink together when their sessions had wrapped up. The consideration witnessed is a credit to these pros and I am privileged to have absorbed the positive energy of the day. It shows that while in business, you may be in competition with someone else, but it doesn’t hurt to be kind, and there is room for everyone to shine. I can’t wait to see the finalists and judges supporting one another at The Scratch Stars Party next month!

In other event news, we’re gearing up for Nailympia Orlando, Nailympia Mexico and the first Nailympia China, which all take place before September, with Nailympia’s 20th anniversary celebration to be marked at Nailympia London in October. If you’re keen to dip your toes into the competition pool, I urge you to register. Arena, hand-in and online categories are available for all divisions, depending on your comfort zone. Competitions provide so much value, not just from a skill perspective, but with their networking opportunities, both online and offline. Sign up and experience the support from judges and fellow pros. Competitions could be the stepping stones you need to grow in proficiency and confidence – and to heighten your love for this beautiful sector and those within it.
