The perfect cure: top tips for minimising heat spikes & maximising mani results
Hey nail techs! Let’s explore a topic that can sometimes turn a relaxing mani-pedi into a less than pleasant experience: heat spikes. You know, those pesky moments when your clients’ nails start to feel like they’re on fire.
In scientific terms, heat spikes are called exothermic reactions. When gel cures, it forms bonds that release heat. The more bonds, the more heat. It’s a tiny chemical reaction on the nail.
How to cool things down:
1.
Less is more: Apply gel in thin layers. Less gel means fewer bonds and less heat.
2.
Choose the right lamp: Opt for an LED lamp with a setting for hard gels. These lamps generate less heat.
3.
Smart gel selection: Seek products that prioritise low heat output, Such as Light Elegance gels. Be sure to cure with one of the brand’s lamps: LEDdot, MiniDot or FlashDot.
Now, let’s talk about another important factor in client comfort: the age of your curing lamp. Lamps have a lifespan and over time, their bulbs can weaken, leading to improper curing and an elevated risk of allergies.
How to keep track of your lamp’s age:
• Mark your calendar: When you buy a lamp, note the date on the bottom of the unit. Set a reminder for when it’s time for a replacement. The date will depend on how frequently you use the lamp.
• Test your lamp’s strength: You can do a few simple tests at the nail desk to check your lamp’s potency. Check out the Light Elegance YouTube channel for detailed tutorials.
“Remember, a well-maintained lamp ensures proper curing and contributes to a more comfortable experience for your clients.”
