What makes me happy
My husband, children, family, friends and fur babies. They are most important to me and bring so much joy. These relationships help me stay grounded.
TECH TEACHING
The
best piece of advice I’ve learned is to maintain healthy relationships: with brands, technicians and clients, and show integrity, honesty and kindness.
Signature style
I love nail art, but always try to keep it elegant. I am most creative with floral designs.
My nail journey
Not long after I qualified in nails, I watched Chantelle Johnson, co-founder of Clawgasmic, create a marbled nail design on social media, and my obsession with artistry grew. I had just started my business when lockdown hit, and the extra time allowed me to experiment with nail art looks. I invested a lot of money in products, watched tutorials and joined online masterclasses.
I didn’t set up my business with the view that it would become what it is today. I simply wanted a career change and to choose my hours to work around my home life. I am based in a studio in my garden: a happy place in which clients can switch off or have a natter, while enjoying a treatment that makes them feel good. Most of my clients have been with me from day one and become friends.
A day in my life
I’m a mother of two, so I offer appointments around my children’s school hours and commitments. I work two short days and two days until 8pm, while my Fridays are focused on content creation and personal responsibilities. This year, I’m needed at home more in the evenings, and can be due to the flexibility of this career.
Career highlight
I am proud to represent brands that I love and maintain a passion for my work. I am a mentor for Bio Sculpture: it has been my chosen brand from the day I started my nail career, and my favourite product is its High Pigment Gel. I also adore Magpie Beauty art products. Another achievement is knowing my worth and only working with people who value it.
My inspirations
Nature, jewellery, prints, fashion and anything else that catches my eye or makes me smile.
FUN FACT I was born in Papua New Guinea.
Social media advice
I noticed my Instagram page getting a lot of interest during lockdown, when I started painting what I loved and not what was trending.
My top tips are:
1. Be consistent. But it’s OK to switch off for however long you need – don’t let work control you.
2. Offer value. Show your audience how to achieve a look and be engaging.
3. Be visible. If you want to grow your profile faster, let people see your face. I did more of this during lockdown and while I don’t enjoy doing it, it does help.
Trend talk
I feel that there is a nail art revival happening, and I love seeing this mix with the classy ‘clean girl aesthetic’, to complement many fashion styles. I am also enjoying the wearable 3D nail trend.
