SCRATCH

I write this Editor’s Letter having returned from the ExCeL London exhibition centre, where the Nailympia arena buzzed with the energy that only nail professionals can deliver: a mix of adrenaline, precision, artistry and focus. The Nailympia London competition, which was the final Nailympia for 2025, saw a record number of participants keen to showcase their skills and receive feedback from the judging panel. This comprised industry champions, esteemed educators and this month’s cover nail artist & academy owner, Dinupa Jayasooriya. Scratch is proud to power Nailympia Competitions and offer a platform for nail professionals to grow, learn and shine, and it was refreshing to see so many first-time competitors on the arena floor.

While nail pros across the globe celebrate their Nailympia successes, the Scratch team is keeping industry excitement high with North America’s Star Nail Artist: an online nail art contest for techs in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The first challenge of Season 2, sponsored by Jan Arnold, is complete – and you can view the inspiring and avant-garde entries from page 58. They are astounding, and a testament to the imaginations and creative skills of contestants. You can follow the journeys of participants on our social media platforms, and at www.scratchmagazine.co.uk/nasna.

Ever-keen to support nail professionals: in both the elevation of their skills and businesses, this issue of Scratch serves up retailing advice as we head into the busy festive season. Turn to page 28 to explore easy-to-sell items to increase your business revenue, including some cute Christmas-themed products and display decorations to excite clients. As the year comes to a close, columnist, Zaara King, shares how to reset your energy to attract positivity during busy spells, and Elaine Watson offers a checklist to ensure you’re maximising on the festive rush.

Let’s keep energy high in this industry, through continued development, creativity and a shared passion for the craft.

Until next month,
