How to build your business beautifully

A FOCUS ON ENERGY RESETTING

About Zaara King

Beauty business and mindset coach, Zaara King, has over 13 years’ experience in the beauty sector. She has worked on a mobile basis, in a salon and from home, and is founder of The Beauty Build community: a space for pros to access free training, support one another and stay motivated. Zaara also hosts The Beauty Build podcast and is passionate about helping professionals to earn more, work less and establish ambitious and motivated mindsets.

This month, I want to help you reset your energy, because you are about to enter the busiest time of the year work-wise. Energy is everything – it’s the vibe you put out into the world. If you’re sending out low vibes, you’re going to get the same back. When you’re vibing high, you attract positive things.

If you work alone, an energy focus is even more important. One of the main energy shifters is community, and who we surround ourselves with really matters. Community is an important factor for long-term success – not only for business owners, but for people in general. However, if you’re a solo beauty pro and look to the online space for community (as I encourage you to do), make sure it is lifting your energy and not draining it.

I love this industry for its creativity, and have met some amazing people in my 14 years within it. However, I am witnessing an increase in negativity online – which I think is magnified by social media. I am an advocate for continuous education, asking challenging questions and raising standards, but it is important to protect your energy, and I know that negativity can be disheartening.

Let’s reset our energy together, by following these steps:

1. Ensure your social media feeds are positive places. If you wouldn’t surround yourself with negative people in real life, why would you do it online? Take five minutes to mute or unfollow accounts that don’t lift you up. Then, take the same amount of time to spread the love, comment positively on other posts, reach out to those you look up to and create connections with people who fit your vibe.

2. Take time away from your phone. The scroll hole can be a slippery slope, so set time limits on apps and stick to them, especially first thing in the morning and before you go to sleep. Swap the screen for a book or journal to help you switch off more easily.

3. Mentally raise your energy each morning. This could involve having a dance party, journaling, doing some exercise or being outdoors for at least 10 minutes.

4. Review your business boundaries and pricing. As you enter your busiest season, ask yourself if you are valuing your time accordingly. Do you need to adjust your deposit or cancellation policies? Are you charging properly? Have you blocked out at least a couple of days so that you can enjoy December?

5. Physically energise yourself. Drink two to three litres of water per day, eat high protein lunches and make sure you move between clients and stretch.

  6. Think about raising your energy levels every day. Create rituals and stick to them. These could include writing a gratitude list or raising your energy through visualisation. Do whatever makes you feel positive.

When you put your energy first, everything grows: your peace, your confidence, your inspired action and your business. When you surround yourself with positive people, protect your time and look after yourself, not only will you reap rewards, but your clients will notice a difference and you’ll attract more positive people. Let’s finish the last part of the year by lifting ourselves up and bringing others with us. I am cheering you on for the last two months of Q4!

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”
