Journey through colour

As OPI embarks on its ‘Road to 150’, UK&I team members share their favourite shades returning to the OPInventory

Global nail brand, OPI, is renowned for its extensive range of shades with inventive names. This year, it has further cemented this reputation with the Road to 150 campaign. Bringing its total offering of GelColor Intelli-Gel™ colours to 150, OPI has reintroduced 50 fan-favourite hues – which are colour-matched in the brand’s Nail Lacquer formula.

OPI co-founder & brand ambassador, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, comments: “Every year, OPI retires select shades to make room for new launches.

Inevitably, somebody’s favourite nail colour is removed from the lineup each time. To commemorate the brand’s 45th anniversary, we’re opening the vault and bringing back some of the most in-demand retired shades: cult classics that OPI fans have been asking about for years.”

OPI’m loving it

Part of the beauty of OPI’s expansive shade selection lies in its ability to cater to every style. From subtle sheers and understated neutrals to bold brights and showstopping shimmers, there is a nail colour and finish to suit all preferences.

We quizzed members of the Scratch Stars award-winning OPI UK & Ireland education team about their favourite returning shades, and what they mean to them…

“I am so excited to see Coconuts Over OPI return to the portfolio. It originated from the Fiji collection in 2017 and is particularly memorable for me, as the collection launched when I first started working for OPI as an educator. OPI Trend Tours were held in locations across the UK to showcase the shades and nail art designs. I vividly remember creating the basket weave style using Coconuts Over OPI!”

Elisha Micallef – OPI educator

“My Chihuahua Bites is my favourite summer shade. The bright coral colour always reminds me of holidays abroad filled with sunshine, good food and plenty of laughs. Whenever I see it, I’m taken back to warm evenings and carefree moments. It’s cheerful, vibrant and the perfect finishing touch to a manicure or pedicure. More than a nail colour, it’s a reminder of happy memories.”

Tracy Dudziak – OPI educator

“My favourite returning shade is Sweet Heart, which is perfect for a ‘barely there’ style. I love a natural nail look and have been a French manicure fan for years. I wore the colour to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary, as it’s timeless and classic. It also paired perfectly with the eternity ring my husband bought me. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year and I can’t wait to wear it again.”

Vicky Knight – OPI educator

“I’m so excited about the return of Bogota Blackberry. It takes me back to being 21 years old: living life in the moment and making memories. I wore it non-stop and always received so many compliments. It is an iconic, vampy dark burgundy with a subtle shimmer. Back in 1992, it was only available in the Nail Lacquer formula, and we sold so many bottles of it in my salon. Now, it’s making a comeback, but the question is: will it make me wild and carefree again? I really hope so!”

Jayne Sharpe – OPI educator

“The shade I’m happiest to see join our core colour collection is Mi Casa Es Blue Casa. Originally launched as part of the Mexico City collection in 2020, this stunning Grecian-inspired blue has remained a firm favourite. It’s the perfect shade to wear on its own for a bold, statement manicure, or to add a vibrant pop of colour to nail art designs. It’s now available in GelColour and Nail Lacquer formulas, making it easier than ever to match my toes to my mani.”

Charlotte Lowe – OPI education brand manager

‘‘ Colour isn’t just something you throw on. It can reflect who you are, mark a meaningful moment or set the tone for how you want to feel. ‘‘

“The [shade] names have become such a huge part of the brand’s DNA, and that has continued since we launched Nail Lacquer in 1989.”

Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI co-founder & brand ambassador

“My favourite shade is Mod About You – the perfect pastel. I love its soft pop of pink, which looks so cute with nail art. I wore this colour for OPI’s 45th birthday celebrations and it gives me so much joy; it’s my ride or die.”

Victoria Howse – OPI educator

“Flannel Aerobics is one of my top colour choices. It doesn’t matter if I’m at the gym or on a night out, this shade goes with everything – and makes me feel glam even during a workout!”

Loretta Walker – OPI educator
