UPGRADE OPTIONS FOR YOUR PEDICURE SERVICES

Sammy MacDonald OPI freelance educator & Nail Boss @s.a.m.m.y.m.a.c @heritagesalons www.heritagesalons.com

Clients today expect more than ever before from their pedicure treatments. With rising salon costs, it has never been more important to increase the value and profit margins of your services. Some salons that I work with do not see the value in upgrades on their everyday services, or the continuation of the client journey by recommending homecare products. However, the importance of these cannot be underestimated.

Add luxury

A client may book a quick, basic pedicure or a simple gel or polish application on their toes, but we live in a world of opportunity. If I booked a simple service, but was offered an upgrade once on site, I would always say yes, unless I was short on time. You could earn £10 extra by offering a foot massage, and I’m sure that not many clients would turn it down.

Also consider offering a hand massage while the client wears OPI ProSpa Treatment Socks during their pedicure. In addition, introduce an incentive: to pay for four pedicures upfront, and get the fifth free.

Increase client spend

I run four businesses: Heritage Salons, in the north east of Scotland. Within each, £25 to £45 is charged for an OPI GelColor service on toes, depending on whether the client books their appointment with a junior or senior technician. When the client arrives for the pedicure, we offer them a £15 upgrade: a foot scrub and massage. We then offer a further £10 upgrade for some OPI ProSpa Treatment Socks.

“Clients need to be educated in the value of high-quality products and understand the cost of each upgrade.”

If a client has a lot of hard or callused skin, we offer a further upgrade: callus gel and hard skin removal for £15. At the end of the pedicure, we always recommend homecare products. A lot of our clients leave with OPI ProSpa Treatment Socks to use a few days after their service. Here’s an outline of these upgrades:

Initial gel pedicure booking: £25/£45 Scrub & massage: £15

OPI ProSpa Treatment Socks: £10

Hard skin removal: £15

Homecare products: £15

Potential pedicure earnings for a one-hour service: £80/£100

By pricing each upgrade separately, clients can see the value in each step, rather than having the mentality of ‘I could never spend £100 on a pedicure.’

Clients need to be educated in the value of high-quality products and understand the cost of each upgrade. OPI is used in all Heritage Salons, and the brand’s ProSpa products are suitable for both manicures and pedicures. The line was developed as skincare for the hands and feet, and my favourite product is the Moisture Bonding Ceramide Spray. I finish all my hand and foot services with it, as it smells amazing.

Team education is also key to understanding products, upgrades and ingredients. To discuss ProSpa education for your team. contact OPI UK directly.

Offering add-ons and helping clients to understand the value of each additional step has supported the growth of my business. If you would like advice or support regarding treatment upgrades, contact me via Instagram.
