Explore 6 ways to elevate your services, excite clients & pull in extra profit

In a competitive industry – and with clients that thrive on convenience, have you considered treatment options to help you stand out from the crowd? Become a one-stop shop for multiple beauty needs by exploring additional services, and reap the benefits of extra profit.

1Rejuvenate hands & boost hydration

Target dry, ageing hands and aid hydration with the CACI Micro-Pro: a portable, handheld treatment device that harnesses microcurrent energy to rejuvenate skin. Ideal for mobile therapists and salon-based pros, the Micro-Pro benefits those with limited space or budget constraints who seek to offer clients advanced, non-invasive skincare results.

“Designed to tone, lift and rejuvenate, the CACI Micro-Pro helps reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and restore a youthful glow,” comments a spokesperson from the company, which has provided skincare technology for over 30 years. “Its dual-function design allows you to perform two treatments simultaneously – either on the same client or two at the same time.”

HAND REJUVENATION TREATMENT: How it works

The CACI Micro-Pro device comes in a handy pack with a USB charger and three cables. CACI’s Hand Hydrating Mask is available separately. Within a manicure service, slip the Electro Gloves onto the client’s hands and pop a cable onto the connection point of each glove. Choose the desired Hand mode on the device: Circulation or Soften, and press the corresponding button to begin the treatment. The gloves are woven with a conductive fibre to channel microcurrent energy to the client’s hands.

“The Hand Circulation treatment lasts around 15 minutes, and promotes collagen renewal and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles,” shares Lauren Evans, training & development officer at CACI. “The Hand Soften service incorporates the Rejuvenating Hand Mask and aids product absorption to promote soft, moisturised skin and cell renewal.”

Treatment timings are pre-set on the device, but can be reduced or increased as desired. “Skin looks brighter and is hydrated after one treatment, but a course of 10-15 treatments is recommended for optimum results,” Lauren continues.

Extra benefits

The CACI Micro-Pro has two other modes: Face Toning and Face Lines. The Face Toning treatment is delivered by the beauty professional, who wears the Electro Gloves with a protective liner underneath. They work on various areas of the client’s face to sculpt, tone and enhance facial definition. Line smoothing can be enjoyed by clients during a pedicure service or alternative treatment, as it incorporates a sheet mask featuring electronic circuit, which is attached via magnetic connectors to the Micro-Pro device. It’s ideal for blemishes, lines and wrinkles, scars, burns and pigmentation. Scan to viewScratch’sinterview with Lauren Evans and learn more about introducing CACI’s Micro-Pro to your business.

2Stun with piercing services

Add sparkle and glamour to noses and and ears by introducing piercing to your service menu. “Piercing is a great additional revenue stream with amazing

profit potential,” comments a spokesperson from Studex UK, provider of piercing instruments, earrings and supplies.

“It requires a low initial investment in equipment and products, but has a great markup.

“Piercing services increase footfall to your business. Offering alongside nail and beauty treatments is convenient for customers and affords multiple retail opportunities.”

System 75 & Medisept

Studex UK offers the System 75 Ear Piercing and Medisept Nose Piercing Systems, each with on-site training to ensure you feel confident in providing the services. Training is free with the purchase of a Starter Kit, which includes everything needed to start the piercing journey: from the instrument and a selection of earrings to the cleaning products.

The training programme takes three to four hours, depending on how many people are being trained to pierce. The spokesperson reveals: “Studex UK training courses are endorsed by HABIA, and the team works closely with local authorities and councils to ensure that services are the best they can be. Nail pros can offer piercing services for £20-60, depending on the earring styles used and salon location.”

Promotional support

Studex UK offers an online media hub, featuring free marketing assets for trained pros to promote piercing services to clients: from social media materials and posters to business guides and blogs. Piercing partners are also promoted via Studex UK social channels.

Retail options

Studex UK offers two earring retail ranges – Sensitive and Tiny Tips – to suit various budgets and business types. Even if you don’t offer piercing services, you can benefit by selling the products. A Studex UK spokesperson comments: “Both ranges are hypo-allergenic and suitable for children. They are ideal products to stock year-round – especially in the run-up to the festive season.”

“Our clients love the Sensitive retail range,” comments Aimee Crook of Revive Nails & Beauty, Chester. “Whenever I complete a piercing service, the client purchases at least one pair of earrings, knowing that the range is perfect for their ears. My non-piercing clients also can’t resist a pair of earrings when they pay for their treatments!”

3Get to grips with waxing

The UK wax market size is predicted to grow 4% by 2031 (according to data by Straits Research), as clients seek quick, effective hair removal methods. Indulge their needs by introducing waxing treatments to your business: services that encourage regular visits, usually every two to three weeks, similar to nail appointments. Consider treatment packages, such as a pedicure with leg wax, or a facial wax and manicure.

Hara Professional

Prep and aftercare products, alongside strip and stripless wax and accessories make up Hara Professional’s waxing range. The brand’s Soft Wax launched into the professional market over 50 years ago, and is available alongside Aloe, Tea Tree Oil and Perfect Pink Strip waxes.

The Stripless Wax range comprises Tropical Pearl, Wild Berry and Rosin Free, and is a flexible, gentle formula that is ideal for facial and intimate waxing. It captures hairs as short as 1mm.

A comprehensive, accredited course includes Hara product knowledge and waxing theory, and a day honing practical skills, including strip and spatula waxing for full leg, bikini, underarm and upper lip.

Products are designed to suit all hair and skin types, and have a low working temperature to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Training and products are available via Sweet Squared, including brand conversion courses and male and female intimate waxing.

A certified online course for beginners teaches brand and product knowledge, as well as hygiene, anatomy and physiology. In-class training includes underarm, female intimate, facial and leg waxing. For more information, visit www.sweetsquared.com

4Complement manis & pedis with laser hair removal

In the UK, 98% of women engage in hair removal, spending over £470 million annually,with75%seekingapermanentsolution.Tapintothisclientbasebyintroducingthe

SMART Diode Compact: a laser hair removal device designed specifically for hair and beauty professionals. Offer as a standalone service or as a pedicure treatment upgrade, so clients can show off super-smooth legs to complement.

“The SMART Diode Compact offers a complete business solution, including ABT-accredited training, comprehensive marketing support, a step-by-step launch plan and ongoing clinical support,” shares Josh Yardley, CEO at The SMART Group, which has been supplying equipment to the health, beauty and aesthetic sectors since 2009. “Those that purchase the device will benefit from a 12-month warranty and dedicated business development manager (BDM) to help grow laser services.”

How it works

Laser hair removal involves pulsing specific wavelengths of laser light onto an area, which are absorbed by the darker pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft. This light energy is then converted into heat, which is transferred into the hair follicle to damage it and inhibit its future growth.

Diode lasers use a single wavelength of light that has a high absorption rate by melanin. This sets it apart from IPL (intense pulsed light) technology, which uses a broad spectrum of light with many wavelengths, which can lead to unfocused energy being wasted.

Benefits & profit potential

Suitable for all skin types, including tanned skin, the SMART Diode Compact utilises diode laser technology for fast, effective treatments – from underarms to the legs, face and bikini area. Virtually pain-free, laser hair removal services can generate up to £250 per hour, with just two clients per week adding £30k to a business’ annual revenue.

Caroline Staite-Loveridge, owner Caroline Staite-Loveridge of Aphrodite Beauty & Nails, Rugby, comments: “We price according to the size of the treatment area and achieve in excess of £200 per hour through laser hair removal services with the SMART Diode. Offering laser hair removal has been amazing for the business. It has motivated the team, given us something new and exciting to talk about and grown our client base.”

Josh Yardley adds: “The SMART Diode Compact has a flexible, three-year interest-free payment plan of £239 + VAT per month. The device is portable, with a convenient travel trolley case included.”

5Cause a flutter with lash & brow services

Introduce lash and brow treatments to your business with the LASHUS duo formula system. The range allows you to lift lashes, as well as laminate, tint, wax and refine brows, and there are five tints available.

LASHUS Lift & Fix lotions can be used on lashes and brows for gentle, long-lasting results. Lift & Fix works by lifting lashes to create the appearance of longer, thicker and more visible lashes, and gives brow hairs flexibility to be styled into the client’s desired shape with ease.

The results of a LASHUS lift or brow lamination will last approximately eight weeks, providing the proper aftercare is followed. A variety of starter kits are available, which include free education courtesy of Sweet Squared.

6Be retail-ready

Retailing is a powerful, yet often overlooked, revenue stream for nail and beauty pros. Many shy away from offering retail products – worried that sales experience is necessary to achieve results. However, selling comes naturally at the nail desk when you’re explaining the purpose of the products used. For example, when you apply cuticle oil or hand cream and share the benefits, simply mention that you offer the items for home use, and ask the client whether they’d like to purchase.

Before you invest in retail ranges, there are numerous factors to consider. Are you a small business with limited space or a mobile pro? Small, inexpensive items may fare best, such as make-up, nail files, earrings and cuticle oil pens. Large salons – particularly those that receive passing trade – may benefit from selling gift sets and seasonal items.

Susan Routledge

“Your retail products need to enhance and complement your brand, so ensure you only use reputable companies and try, test and research their products before investing,” shares salon, spa & business consultant,

Susan Routledge. “Stock take at least once a month so you know what to accurately order, and monitor fashion trends to stay current with colours.”

Retailing can boost revenue by 10-30%, without adding more time to an appointment. When you recommend products, you reinforce your role as a trusted beauty professional and help give your clients the correct tools for at-home care.
