My nail journey

I’ve always been creative and practiced nail art on myself from the age of eight. I enrolled on a nail course while studying for a degree in Product Design, and decided to pursue a full-time career in nails in early 2024. I was hesitant to take the leap, fearing I might lose my passion, but it has only intensified. I work within Luxe Beauty in Manchester city centre: a welcoming salon environment where gossip, giggles and singalongs take place.

NAIL ART ADVICE

Keep calm! Stressing about designs can make them more challenging, and they make seem intimidating until you break them down. Using a good liner brush – such as Brillbird’s 0 Long Brush – is also important.

A day in my life

It typically starts with some movement – usually pilates, and an iced vanilla oat milk latte. I head into the salon and complete admin tasks during any spare moments. As I’m self-employed, I try to take advantage of my flexible work hours, so many enjoy a late start, massage or coffee with friends.

My inspirations

I get a lot of ideas from nail pros online and things around me. I can eat dinner and be inspired by a piece of broccoli!

Trend talk Last year, an icy chrome over a red or brown hue was an autumn/winter favourite, and I hope it makes a return! I believe that blooming gel will remain popular for winter nail art.

What makes me happy

As nail styling began as a hobby for me, I find that my job can seep into my personal life. For example, I create content and do the nails of friends and family in my free time. I also exercise a lot and am currently obsessed with reading – particularly psychological thrillers.

Career highlights

Creating nail looks for Rita Ora and social media influencers, Sophia and Cinzia, were pinch-me moments. I am happy that I am successful and able to do what I love every day.

Social media tips

At the end of last year, my work started gaining traction on social media. I began posting consistently on TikTok and shared more Instagram content. A few of my videos went viral, however my success is also the result of years of posting what I love with no expectations.

My top tips are:

1. Find your niche: There’s an overwhelming amount of online nail content, so a niche is crucial. Create posts you like making and seeing, as they will perform better.

2. Be personal: Followers enjoy seeing the person behind the account. Sharing your personality helps them relate to you.

3. Post everything: You never know what might go viral! The content you hesitate to post may perform best.
