My nail journey
I trained in Beauty Therapy 20 years ago, as I was unsure what to specialise in after completing an art foundation course. I’ve always been creative and sought a career to utilise my artistic abilities. I practiced nail art techniques during lockdown and loved the craft, so launched Killer Queens Klaws, welcoming clients once salons could reopen.
A day in my life
I have a full-time job in finance, so work Monday to Friday in an office then run my nail business in the evenings. I enjoy that my two occupations are very different, and I’m able to end each day being creative.
I work from my home-based studio, which is colourful and cosy. I’ve been doing many of my clients’ nails for years, and appointments are creative catch-ups.
What makes me happy
Chilling with my Pomeranian, Minnie, brings me joy. I also love to see family and friends when I’m not working.
Signature style
I’m a fan of bold lines, vibrant colours, glitter and plenty of chrome. If I have my way, I will include a star in all my nail designs!
My favourite nail style that I’ve created is a pink Halloween look from 2024. It was a different take on Halloween nail art, and the first time I’d been happy with one of my aura creations.
My inspirations
I use Pinterest posts for inspiration, such as illustrations that catch my eye or products and trends that I can incorporate into my work. Most of the time, my clients provide me with some form of inspiration, and I put my own spin on it.
3 WORDS TO DESCRIBE MYSELF
Perfectionist, loud and disorganised.
Career highlights
My greatest achievement is winning the Best Gel Nails category in the UK Beauty Awards 2023. It was the first beauty competition I had entered and I couldn’t believe it when I won!
Social media tips
Interest in my work increased in November 2023, when I posted a Christmas chrome nail design on Instagram. I had been consistently sharing Reels, but decided to post a photo of my own nails and the reactions were amazing!
My top tips are:
1. Don’t underestimate the power of photos. Personally, I find photos perform better than Reels. 2. When posting nail art designs, make sure the thumb is shown and features an eye-catching look. 3. Utilise hashtags to reach more people.
