Reflect, recharge & sparkle into the New Year
As
2024 comes to a close, I find myself feeling reflective (and a little emotional) writing my final column for Scratch. It’s been an incredible privilege to share my thoughts, experiences and love for the nail industry with you. After 22 years in this sector, I thought I had experienced a lot, but writing this column has brought new challenges and rewards. It’s encouraged me to reflect on my career in a fresh way, sometimes taking me out of my comfort zone. Through it all, the connection with you – celebrating the wins and navigating the tough moments together – has made this experience so meaningful. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being with me each month.
Looking back on this journey, a few key lessons stand out that I hope will inspire you. If this year has shown me anything, it’s that resilience is one of our greatest strengths. We all understand the ups and downs that come with this profession and running our own businesses. One day, we’re creating masterpieces we can’t wait to share and the next, we’re doubting every stroke. However, these moments teach us something invaluable. They remind us that our growth as nail artists comes from pushing through the tough days to find inspiration in unexpected places. We’re not just creating nail art; we’re building our own paths to success.
So, to each of you reading this: you’re part of a vibrant, supportive community and I want you to know that you’re seen, appreciated and valued. Your hard work, creativity and dedication light up this industry. Without you, it wouldn’t be what it is! You bring something unique to the sector and I feel lucky to have connected with you in some way, whether through these columns, online or in person. Thank you for the love you pour into every set of nails, and thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey.
Goodbye 2024, hello 2025
A new year is approaching, so now is the perfect time to think about what you want to achieve in 2025. Setting goals doesn’t have to be intimidating, and I truly believe it can unlock new possibilities. Take a moment to dream big and be specific. Do you want to expand your client list, try new designs or make time for self-care? Whatever your goals, I encourage you to set aside the ‘how’ for a moment and focus on the ‘why’. Your ‘why’ will give you the energy to keep going when things get tough.
“Your
hard
work,
creativity and dedication light up this
industry.
Without
you,
it
wouldn’t
be what it
is!”
“Our
growth as nail artists comes from pushing through the tough days to find inspiration in unexpected
places. We’re
not just creating nail
art; we’re
building our own paths to
success.”
To help with this, take some time to follow these steps:
1.
Define your vision.
Ask yourself: what does your ideal year look like? Imagine your personal and work lives if things were just as you’d love them to be. Don’t hold back – this is your dream!
2. Set key goals.
Break your vision down into smaller, specific goals. Think about what’s achievable in three, six and 12 months. Start with one to three main goals that feel exciting and manageable, and write them down.
3. Create action steps.
For each goal, note down one or two action steps. Small steps add up and before you know it, they’ll lead you to your vision!
4. Reflect and adjust.
This part is key. Every few months, take time to check in with yourself. What’s working and what needs to change? Be flexible and gentle with yourself; growth isn’t always a straight line.
