Codie Chown
NAILS BY CODIE
Founder of Nails by Codie, Codie Chown, has always had a passion for nails, and set her sights on a career in the industry at the age of 10, after helping out at a salon. While many childhood dream jobs change, hers remained constant and became a reality in February 2022. The pro opened her first salon:
Nails By Codie in Rochdale, and quickly outgrew the space once she launched online nail courses and a product line.
Having claimed the runner-up award for Best Nail Technician at the UK Beauty Awards 2024, Codie has established a reputable profile within the industry. The pro prides herself on affordability, particularly of her online courses, which are available for beginners in L&P acrylic, builder gel, gel polish and nail art. A spokesperson for Nails By Codie comments: “Codie believes in giving everyone the chance to work for themselves, particularly young people with limited resources and stay-at-home techs who want to balance work with family life.”
Codie is driven by innovation, and her brand’s builder gel and gel polish ranges are bestsellers. The Nails By Codie portfolio also boasts an L&P acrylic range and various kits. Managing demand has been the business’ main challenge, largely due to the brand’s impressive support on social media. The Nails By Codie following skyrocketed after Codie started posting nail art swatch videos, which went viral.
Looking ahead, the business owner seeks to establish Nails By Codie as a trusted brand in the industry, particularly in the areas of reliability and customer service.

Sophie Cox
THE NAIL STORY CO.
Keen to become ‘the Paperchase of the nail world’, Sophie Cox created The Nail Story Co.: a stationery brand that seeks to add structure to businesses. Launched in July 2023, the company combines the tech’s two passions: nails and stationery. She says: “One day, the idea just ‘clicked’. My love for everything nails and stationery came together, and I thought: ‘what if there was a planner designed for nail techs that features handy resources?’”
Having spent years identifying challenges with the stationery she used while running her nail business, Sophie created The Nail Story Co. products to fill a gap she identified in the market, sharing: “I kept imagining pointers that would make business growth easier, such as a stock tracker, nail design planner and business progress chart, so I collated my ideas and launched The Nail Story Co. Planner/Journal.
“The Planner/Journal offers an amazing way for nail techs to organise their businesses,” Sophie continues. “It includes features such as a calendar overview, inventory and stock check, to-do lists, social media planning, monthly reflections and client information lists.” Design Inspo Pads and Consultation Forms also join the product range, increasing the ease of nail art planning, admin and safety requirements.
Running the brand alongside her client-facing business, Sophie adds: “Since I have moved to a self-employed way of working, I have a better balance when it comes to my businesses. However, in the early days of The Nail Story Co. it was more challenging.
I would be planning products, emailing printers and posting out orders any spare minute I had, but I absolutely loved it!”
